Objectives As part of the School Board Strategy of encouraging a partnership between the school, children and parents in the education of the children the school web site has been identified as a means of increasing communication, from providing general information on the school, providing guidance to parents on how to participate and assist their children's learning, largely static in nature and information on the various school activities and work of the children. This part of the web site is largely dynamic in nature. The school is currently participating in a Ministry of Education contract for professional development in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) this professional development has assisted the teaching staff in the creation of a number of wiki's and blogs. The ICT contract and the skills being developed by the teaching staff is driving the increase in school web sites and the material contained within them. Whilst the latest elements of the schools web sites, largely the wiki's and blogs are easily maintained, the primary web site is difficult to update and consequently the material and look and feel of the site are challenging to keep current. In Scope All Pigeon Mountain Primary School web sites are included in the scope of this project, at present the schools web site consists of a number of separate web sites, from the main school site to individual wiki's and blogs developed as part of the various professional development programs. The full list of web sites in scope for this project are; lwww.pigeon-mountain.school.nz l<<list of the various wiki's / blogs used by the school>> Out of Scope Any web site or web site content which has not been created by school staff as part of their employment by the school. Deliverables This project will deliver a new web site for the school, the web site will provide the functionality currently in use within the existing web sites inclusive of the wiki's and blogs. The project will deliver the following; 1.Revised look and feel 2.Consolidated static and dynamic web site comprised of all existing web sites, inclusive of wiki's and blogs 3.A review of the web site hosting, currently distributed across a number of providers, with the view of having a single hosting partner 4.Easily maintained and extended The web site, inclusive of its wiki's and blogs, needs to be easy to update and extend, the school staff, specifically the office staff and the teachers will be the primary maintainers of the content and site structure, as such, the interface and editing capabilities of the web site infrastructure should support and enable this level of skill. The web site will maintained by a large number of people, approximately 30 and a multi-user environment with full security and audit logging is required. The school is highly multi-cultural with a significant number of Asian students, as a result, the web site will be updated to be multi-lingual with English and Mandarin versions for the “static” part of the site.
